The MUSIC GALLERY was opened in 1994 as a sister company to the well established Cambridge Pianoforte. Our aim is to provide a high level of service and instrument repairs for all musicians. Our experienced team of repairers offers a complete service for bowed instruments.

We are proud of our reputation as a premiere retailer of bowed instruments. We believe that this is due to several factors: Our careful choice of makers and our relationships with them including regular visits to their workshops in Germany; our experience in selecting exactly the right models to suit our customers requirements; and the fact that our instruments are all either entirely refitted or adjusted byour experienced Luthiers.

One of our restorers is Steffi Koplin, she comes with an impressive training background and a great breadth of experience. Steffi trained first as a violin maker in the famous school in Cremona, Italy, “Scoula Internazionale di Liuteria A. Stradivari”. After 3 years in Italy she continued her college education by attending the violin making and repair school at Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire for a further 2 years. When Steffi finished at Newark-on-Trent she gained experience in bowed instrument repairs around the world in workshops in her native Germany, Canada, France and England.

Prior to sale, Steffi fits the instrumentswith new bridges and high-quality strings (such as Pirastro "Permanent") as well as re-fitting pegs, soundposts, and endpins.Players and teachers confirm that this attention to "set-up" is absolutely vital in order to get the best from your instrument.

As an accomplished violinist, she is able to test, demonstrate and understand the needs of the musician.
